Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage can be used to reduce general pregnancy discomfort such as sore back, headaches, leg cramps and swelling of the feet and ankles. It can assist in reducing muscle tension, relief of joint pain and improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage. It can improve sleep and is particularly helpful for women experiencing sciatic nerve pain. Pregnancy massage has been proven to reduce women’s stress hormones and increase the level of hormones which are low in women who are depressed. Pregnant women often find they have more energy after a massage as it has given them the opportunity to really relax.
At Tamworth Remedial Massage Centre, therapists use pillows to comfortable position clients on their side. However, in early stages some women prefer to still lie on their stomach and for clients who are not comfortable lying at all we can use a seated massage chair.
Massage is not suggested when your midwife or doctor have advised you against it. We suggest you ask your doctor if you are in a high risk pregnancy category, have previously had a premature labour, have Pregnancy Induced Hypertension e.g. high blood pressure or have pre-eclampsia, or sudden swelling with retention of fluid.
